Salsa was born from Cuban rhythms and came of age in 1970s New York, where it picked up its speed, its spins and its swagger. Bachata grew up in the Dominican Republic and took a different route: softer, closer, more romantic.
Social dancing has no set choreography. The leader suggests, the follower answers, and the dance is invented on the spot — which is exactly what makes it addictive. Our classes focus on the skills that make this conversation work: clear leading and following, turn patterns, timing and musicality. The goal is not to memorise a routine, but to be able to dance with someone you met thirty seconds ago.
Salsa Beginner covers the basic step, timing and your first turns. Intermediate adds combinations, styling and changes of rhythm. Advanced is where the fun gets serious: complex patterns, shines, speed and playing with the music. Bachata is taught within the social dance programme and on club nights, where both dances take over the floor.
Either. Bachata is slower and forgiving for beginners; salsa gives you speed and structure. Many members do both.
